Finance Systems Engineering

The enablement and support of Firmwide services and technologies is central to Global Business Technology’s mandate. These robust capabilities have uniquely positioned the team to deliver support for any common technologies adopted by two or more individual Verein Members and Affiliates. The GBT team can leverage these existing firmwide capabilities, augmenting where capacity or skillset gaps exist to expand support.

Global Business Technology has been mandated to establish a team to support production and development finance environments that have been deployed for VMAs considered in-scope of the service. This strategic expansion of GBT’s Central Technology Support services (CTS Add On), will establish the Finance Systems Engineering team who will be accountable for the operational support of these finance environments (Elite 3E), deployment support for new features and updates, management of global integrations, and keeping the environments current including patches and updates.

Role

The Global Platforms Engineer (Finance) is a member of the Finance Systems Engineering team within the Global Technology Services group. Reporting to the Global Senior Manager, Finance Systems Engineering, this role is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the technical infrastructure – including networks and servers – underpinning the production and development finance environments for the designated VMAs within the scope of the support services.

A deep understanding of and experience with cloud-native Azure infrastructure and Microsoft technologies will allow the Global Platforms Engineer (Finance) to ensure supported environments remain robust, reliable, secure and capable of consistently delivering a high-performance experience to meet or exceed service level expectations. The role demands a proactive approach to problem-solving, a focus on continuous infrastructure optimization, and an absolute commitment to achieving Service Excellence.

Collaboration is essential to achieving success in this role. The Global Platforms Engineer (Finance) must work closely with other global engineers, colleagues across Global Business Technology, and local VMA technology teams to foster a culture of partnership and trust. Building and maintaining strong relationships across teams is vital for delivering seamless support and achieving shared goals.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

• Azure Accountability: Maintain accountability for the Azure infrastructure supporting Elite 3E based production and development finance environments for Verein Members and Affiliates (VMAs) in scope.
• Technical Leadership: Lead technical efforts and innovate with a focus on infrastructure availability, optimization, security, and delivering seamless support.
• ITSM Processes: Ensure strict adherence to ITSM business processes, including incident management, major incident management, problem management, and change management.
• Operational Procedures: Develop and implement technical processes and procedures to enable environment monitoring, patching, upgrades, optimization, and to ensure effective operation of environments.
• Collaboration Across Teams: Collaborate with GBT and local VMA teams to ensure the effective support and maintenance of the finance environments.
• Support-Centric Focus: Maintain a focus on delivering Service Excellence, by ensuring systems and services meet business-critical needs and user experience expectations.

Plan

• Finance Environments Roadmap Development: Contribute to create and maintain comprehensive roadmaps supporting the finance environments, aligning them with business objectives and priorities.
• Consolidated Roadmaps: Work closely with the Global Platform Engineering and Global Data Services teams to consolidate roadmaps across related technologies.
• Resource and Capacity Planning: Collaborate with other GBT teams to define resource requirements, plan capacity needs, and prioritize work based on business-critical objectives and local VMA priorities.
• Disaster Recovery Planning: Contribute to disaster recovery (DR) plans and ensure finance environments are integrated into the overall business continuity and disaster recovery strategies.

Build

• Provisioning and Maintenance: Apply best practices for provisioning, maintaining, updating, and decommissioning finance environments to meet the expectations of local VMAs, and in alignment with GBT standards.
• Vendor Coordination: Manage and oversee technical activities involving partners such as Elite and Microsoft for new deployments, ensuring alignment with service delivery goals and expectations.
• Architecture and Budget Alignment: Ensure all new deployments remain within budget and are thoroughly documented and tested.
• Hands-On Involvement: Take an active, hands-on role delivering on tasks and projects to ensure accountability and success.
• Integration Development: Support the design, deployment, and testing of global integrations for finance environments, ensuring seamless connectivity across systems.

Run

• Change Management: Actively participate in global change management processes to maintain the stability and integrity of the supported finance environments.
• Operations Support: Collaborate with the Global Operations team to monitor, patch, and administer the finance environments while planning for capacity needs.
• Platform Updates: Manage and deliver platform upgrades and updates for the supported environments, working in partnership with other GBT teams and local VMA teams.
• Security Collaboration: Support Global Security Operations teams by enabling effective monitoring tools and responding to security incidents promptly and efficiently.
• Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Establish robust monitoring practices to measure finance systems performance and provide regular reporting to key stakeholders.
• Proactive Problem Management: Identify recurring issues and implement preventative solutions to reduce downtime and improve overall reliability.

Requirements

Skills and Competencies

A Global Platforms Engineer (Finance) must possess a strong technical aptitude with significant hands-on experience working with enterprise platforms and infrastructure technologies. A strong focus on cloud technologies is essential, partnered with a significant foundation with traditional Microsoft based technologies. Team members must be both technically proficient, as well as capable of articulating ideas and strategies in writing or verbally.

Technical Skills

• Extensive expertise with Microsoft Azure IaaS and PaaS technologies, including:
• Virtual Servers, Networking, Load Balancers, Azure SQL, Storage Accounts, Key Vaults.
• Web Applications, Log Analytics, Automation Accounts, Logic Apps, Azure Monitor
• Strong expertise with Windows based server infrastructures.
• Strong expertise with networking and firewall technologies.
• Strong expertise with business continuity technologies (e.g., backups, failover, disaster recovery).
• Experience with PowerShell and other service automation tools and services.
• Experience with Azure Databases (Managed Instances) and Microsoft SQL technologies.
• Practical knowledge of implementation lifecycles, methodologies, tools, and practices.
• Formal IT qualifications or accreditations (for instance, ITIL, Prince 2, MCSE).
• Understanding of standards and frameworks (for instance, SOC2, ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials).

• Additional relevant technology certifications (e.g., MCSE, CISSP, or AWS certifications) are considered beneficial.
• A minimum of 6 years of progressive experience working with infrastructure technologies.
• Experience leading technical teams or projects is an asset.
• Comprehensive knowledge of enterprise architecture and familiarity with common IT frameworks.
