Job Role: Senior Accountant

Compensation range: $2,000 - $3,000 AUD/month

Engagement type: Employee on Record

Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9.00 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Our client is a growing Australian-based advisory and accounting firm that provides a range of financial, taxation, and business advisory services to small and medium-sized enterprises. The team operates in a collaborative and professional environment, leveraging modern accounting tools and best practices to deliver high-quality outcomes.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support the client’s growing portfolio of Australian clients. This role will be responsible for managing end-to-end accounting functions, ensuring compliance with Australian tax regulations, and providing valuable financial insights to support business decisions.

The ideal candidate is proactive, technically strong in AU accounting standards, and comfortable working independently in a remote environment while collaborating with an offshore/onshore team. This role is also a stepping stone to team leadership, as the person will be trained to eventually become a team leader.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Ensure compliance with Australian accounting standards and tax regulations
  • Prepare and lodge BAS, IAS, and other statutory requirements
  • Prepare management reports for internal and client use

Taxation & Advisory Support

  • Assist in preparation of income tax returns for individuals, companies, trusts, and partnerships
  • Support tax planning and advisory engagements
  • Identify opportunities for tax efficiencies and business improvements

Bookkeeping & General Accounting

  • Oversee and review bookkeeping tasks including reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable processes when required
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data
  • Efficiently use BGL software for accounting and compliance tasks

Client Management & Communication

  • Liaise with clients to gather financial information and clarify queries
  • Provide clear and professional communication regarding financial matters
  • Build strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders

Process Improvement & Systems

  • Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency
  • Work with cloud-based accounting software (e.g., Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks)
  • Support automation and digital transformation initiatives where applicable

Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Senior Accountant, preferably supporting Australian clients
  • Strong knowledge of Australian tax laws and compliance requirements (BAS, GST, etc.)
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, or QuickBooks
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines
  • Proficient in using BGL software for accounting and compliance tasks

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in an Australian accounting or advisory firm
  • Exposure to cloud-based and automation tools
  • CPA/CA qualification or working towards certification
