The Position
Are you up a nonprofit marketing professional with expertise in designing and deploying creative and compelling digital marketing plans? Do you have a track record of setting ambitious, data-driven goals to build organizations supporter bases? Are you a creative thinker and doer? And maybe a bit of a science nerd?
UCS is seeking a Director of Digital Marketing to oversee our five-person digital engagement team. In this job, you will work closely with the director of membership and associate director of digital engagement to create a strategic mobilization and advocacy strategy to engage and expand our supporter base. You will use your exceptional analytic skills to test approaches, monitor progress, and adjust strategies to maximize ROAS and other measures of impact.
During your first 30 days
You will be onboarded through one-on-ones, team meetings, and strategy and process document reviews to gain a broad understanding of the organizational mission and internal operations, our science-advocacy brand, advocacy campaigns, how digital marketing and engagement fits within communications department goals, and scope of the Director of Digital Marketing’s role and responsibilities. You will meet and begin to work with our digital fundraising consultants in close collaboration with our membership team.
Between Day 30-60
You will embrace the day-to-day responsibilities of your role with advice from the Chief Communications Officer, Membership Director, and Associate Director of Digital Engagement. You will oversee existing digital marketing strategies, take over as a primary gatekeeper for digital content, and oversight of digital team to ensure they are meeting annual goals. Working with and advising your direct reports (Associate Director, Email Marketing Manager, Digital Marketing Manager), you will develop a clearer sense of the success and challenges of supporter recruitment efforts as well as UCS’s supporter mobilization strategy.
Between Day 60 and 90
You will continue to lead the day-to-day work, and also begin to assess our current digital marketing strategies. You will stakeholders in communications and development, our digital marketing consultants, and across the organization to begin annual planning and budgeting for fiscal year FY26 (October 2025-Sept 2026) to improve our supporter mobilization and retention ands well as our supporter recruitment efforts in FY26 and beyond.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
Position requires a proven ability to develop strategic, creative, and data-driven marketing and mobilization efforts to build supporter base and increase engagement. Exceptional analytic skills are required as is deep experience with constituent relationship management and advocacy technical tools. Experience managing staff, mentoring, and building effective teams is essential, as are strong project management skills and the ability to run projects from concept through execution. Must be able to set priorities, coordinate multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail, and meet tight deadlines with high quality work. Must also possess excellent writing and editorial skills. Knowledge of design fundamentals and content management systems strongly preferred.
Position requires 10+ years of experience in online and offline marketing and mobilization, with a proven track record of growing supporter lists and increasing brand and campaign visibility through digital channels, including in-depth knowledge of eCRMs, digital advertising, and social media tools and platforms. Previous supervisory experience required. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required.

Will supervise three people.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Little or no exertion; may require extended periods at a computer. May need to occasionally lift and carry boxes of supplies or publications. May spend extended periods out of the office. Some late hours and/or weekends may be required in connection with events or critical deadlines.
WORK SCHEDULE
Regular office hours may include occasional nights and weekends.
TRAVEL
5% or less travel for professional conferences and planning meetings.

For those who meet all position requirements, the salary range is $129,001 - $145,130 . UCS offers excellent benefits and a rewarding work environment. *CA Resident Only, we offer a 12% salary differential*
