Job Description

Our client seeks a visionary Head of Design to lead and elevate their lace manufacturing design team. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced European designer to blend technical expertise with creativity, driving innovation in a global, specialized manufacturing environment.

Location: Sri Lanka (Spend at least 6 months in Sri Lanka per year)

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of 5-6 designers, fostering skill development and technical growth.
  • Develop marketable and trend-driven lace collections, collaborating with trend/color specialists.
  • Conduct market research and explore historical lace archives for creative inspiration.
  • Oversee collection planning, product development, and costing processes.
  • Provide technical design support, including drafting, sampling, and yarn selection.
  • Prepare trend boards and promotional materials for collections.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of experience in lace design and manufacturing.
  • Strong background in European lace craftsmanship and design traditions.
  • Proven ability to translate historical inspiration into modern, marketable designs.

Preferred Background:

  • French or Italian designer with high-end lace manufacturing experience.
  • Familiarity with competitors renowned for exceptional lace designs.

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced expertise in lace design techniques.
  • (Bonus) Experience with 3D prototyping technologies.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong leadership, coaching, and communication abilities.
  • Innovative thinker with strategic vision.
  • Ability to inspire and elevate a design team’s creative potential.
