We're looking for a remote Product Designer to join our team. You will be reporting to the Product Design Manager. You will create new experiences that help scientists accelerate their research. You will promote user needs, navigate complex data and workflows, and bring new ideas from concept to launch while contributing to the continued growth of the design practice at BenchSci. You will also have the opportunity to receive supportive mentorship from a seasoned team of senior, lead, and principal designers!
This posting is for a 7-monthcontract position from mid-April to mid-November 2025, to provide paternity leave coverage.
You will:
Create impactful experiences for our users
Apply your skills to problem definition through to the creation of user flows, wireframes, prototypes, specifications, and visual designs
Collaborate with product managers, scientists, and engineers, to design solutions that meet the business, technical, and user needs
Design skillfully crafted solutions that align with brand and product design principles
Work within established patterns, while exploring and contributing to new patterns and pattern libraries
Understand and utilize established design guidelines and systems in the design process
Confidently apply best practices to commonly faced design problems, ensuring solutions are sturdy
Work with the development team to ensure designs are implemented per specifications
Present, articulate, and explain design recommendations and decisions within teams and to stakeholders
Deliver compelling design documents that facilitate team buy-in and execute designs as intended
Offer thoughtful and actionable feedback that enhances design discussions. Hold other designers accountable with curiosity, and back design decisions with qualitative and quantitative data
Demonstrate an understanding of interaction design, multi-step flows, and cross-platform flows
Enhance our design outputs by contributing to the evolution of our operations, tools, and knowledge.
You have:
2+ years of end-to-end design experience on technically complex products
A portfolio demonstrating your ability to ship impactful solutions that users love
Deep empathy for the users that you design for, and an ability to orient others around the needs and pain points of those users
Confidence and communication skills to convey and defend the rationale behind your design decisions to a variety of stakeholders
A passion to understand and improve UX involving complex workflows and data
Proficiency in Product Design Principles that guide UI decision-making
A scientific mindset. You question your assumptions to make data-driven decisions
A track record in intermediate design positions, working across various stages of product development from early-stage discovery to implementation
Familiarity with design and collaboration tools (e.g. Figma, Sketch, InVision, Miro)
