Job Description

Design products that change how a million public sector workers experience their money.

Remote-first, UK only

At My Money Matters, we exist to close the financial gap for the people who keep our public services running. 72% of public sector workers are one bad month away from financial difficulty. We're changing that through on demand pay, payroll savings, pension top-ups, and Max, our AI financial coach. Already trusted by the NHS and major local government employers, we're building fast. This is our first permanent product design hire, and a pivotal moment for the product.

The role

You'll be the sole product designer at My Money Matters, responsible for the full UI and UX experience across our web platform, desktop tools, and mobile app. That means everything from onboarding flows and data visualisation to the design system that ties it all together.

You'll set the design direction, own the Figma system, work directly with the Head of Product and engineering team, and shape how hundreds of thousands of people engage with their financial lives. You'll also play a key part in designing Max, our AI-powered money coach.

We're looking for someone who brings strong design instincts, moves fast, and uses AI and automation to work smarter.

What you'll be doing

  • Owning UI and UX end-to-end across web, desktop, and mobile app, from concept to shipped product
  • Building and maintaining a world-class Figma design system with reusable components and consistent patterns
  • Designing intuitive onboarding flows that convert and retain members across a diverse public sector audience
  • Making complex financial data clear, meaningful, and actionable through thoughtful data visualisation
  • Leading UX on Max, our AI financial coaching product, shaping how members experience conversational finance
  • Running accessibility reviews to WCAG 2.2 AA standard, ensuring the product works for everyone
  • Collaborating daily with product, engineering, and marketing, contributing to sprint ceremonies and delivery planning
  • Using AI tools and automation to accelerate prototyping, ideation, and design production
  • Researching best-in-class patterns, running usability testing, and feeding insight back into the product

Requirements

What we're looking for:

  • Demonstrable product design experience with a portfolio that demonstrates exceptional craft; we want to see consumer fintech, data made simple, and high converting customer flows
  • Expert Figma skills: components, variables, auto layout, and a genuine eye for a scalable design system
  • Strong grasp of modern design principles including motion, accessibility, responsive systems, and interaction design
  • Experience designing consistently across mobile app, web, and desktop
  • Comfort working with data-heavy interfaces where clarity is the primary design challenge
  • Proven use of AI design tools to move faster and prototype smarter
  • Analytical mindset: you use data, testing, and user feedback to make decisions, not assumptions
  • High-ownership mentality: you spot what needs doing without being asked and you move

It would be great if you also had:

  • Experience in a B2C fintech, financial wellbeing, or employee benefits product
  • Exposure to public sector audiences such as NHS or local government
  • Experience designing AI-powered or conversational product experiences
  • Background working as a sole or lead designer in a scaling business
