Job Role: Architectural Draftsperson

Compensation range: $3,000 AUD - $4,000 AUD / Monthly

Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement

Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Who The Client Is: This client is a residential home builder in New South Wales, specializing in obtaining approval and constructing high-quality, innovative homes such as, but not limited to, single-storey, double-storey, dual occupancies, Studios, granny flats, duplexes, secondary dwellings designs. They are known for their customer-focused approach, smooth building approvals, and commitment to delivering homes on time, on budget, and to a high standard of craftsmanship.

Role Overview: The Architectural Draftsperson is responsible for producing high-quality architectural drawings and documentation for homes, ensuring all plans comply with NSW building regulations. This role involves liaising with internal teams and external consultants, supporting the building approval process, and assisting the Customer Experience team with 3D plan presentations. The position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a focus on delivering an exceptional customer experience while upholding a high standard of design and drafting quality.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Drafting & Documentation:
    • Produce accurate working drawings for Tender Preliminary Plans, Permit Plans, and Construction Plans, including but not limited to:
      • Site Plans, Floor Plans, Elevations, Sections
      • Window & Door Schedules, Façade Details
      • Kitchen & Bathroom Details, Slab Plans, Electrical Plans
      • Landscape Plans and any other relevant documentation as required
    • Ensure all drawings maintain Hudson Homes’ high drafting standards.
  • Stakeholder Liaison:
    • Communicate openly with external consultants, including council officers, private certifiers, engineers, surveyors, and arborists, to ensure timely progress of approvals.
    • Support the Customer Experience team with 3D walkthroughs and plan presentations.
  • Building Approvals & Compliance:
    • Facilitate all processes necessary for obtaining full building approval for each home.
    • Provide additional drawings, assist stakeholders with submitted applications, and produce required reports for approving authorities.
    • Check plans and assess conditions of approval, addressing any issues that arise during the process.
    • Apply NSW-specific compliance knowledge to ensure all plans meet local building regulations.
  • Team Collaboration & Best Practice:
    • Demonstrate Hudson Homes’ core values in all interactions.
    • Adhere to best practice approaches in all procedures and processes.
    • Perform other reasonable duties as required to support the team and project outcomes.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in architectural drafting, with demonstrated experience in NSW-specific compliance and plan production. This is most important.
  • Proficient in architectural drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD, ArchiCADRevit, BIMx).
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • Familiarity with Australian building codes and approval processes, particularly NSW-specific compliance requirements. This is most important.

This is a remote role that will be set up as an independent contractor engagement.
