About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Directories Team, which is a hybrid of Upwork and Contra. The Directories platform will serve as a trusted space where businesses can post projects, discover and collaborate with Certified Admins, and where Admins can showcase verified credentials, portfolios, and client success stories.

As a Senior Engineer, you’ll design and build scalable systems for directory search, profile management, credential verification, and SEO-driven discovery. You’ll work across the stack to deliver performant user experiences, develop APIs that connect creators and customers, and integrate secure verification workflows. Collaborating closely with product, infrastructure, and data teams, you’ll help shape the foundation of a trusted, high-performing platform that enhances visibility and credibility for businesses and creators alike.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain scalable directory and listings systems that power discovery, search, and credential verification across millions of records.
Develop and maintain reusable UI components aligned with HighLevel’s design system to ensure a consistent, accessible experience across web and mobile.
Implement responsive, high-performance frontend experiences, optimizing load times, rendering efficiency, and accessibility for diverse devices and network conditions.
Build and extend backend APIs and microservices in Node.js/NestJS to support search, filtering, credential validation, and SEO-driven discovery.
Architect and manage data models and indexing strategies (e.g., Elasticsearch, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) to ensure fast, accurate directory lookups and filtering.
Integrate analytics and instrumentation to measure engagement, conversion, and search performance, translating insights into product and UX improvements.
Collaborate with product managers, designers, and cross-functional engineers to deliver cohesive, full-stack features that connect businesses, creators, and learners.
Identify and resolve UI/UX bottlenecks, accessibility gaps, and security issues to deliver a trusted and polished experience.Use AI-driven tools and frameworks to improve development workflows, automate testing, and enhance search and recommendation precision.
Stay current with emerging frontend frameworks, backend performance techniques, and scalable web architecture patterns—sharing insights with the broader team.

Requirements

4+ years of full-stack development experience with a strong focus on frontend engineering.
Proficiency in modern JavaScript frameworks (Vue.js, React, or Angular) and Node.js/NestJS for building scalable, high-performance web applications.
Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, TypeScript, and modern frontend build tools such as Webpack, Vite, or similar.
Deep understanding of browser rendering, performance profiling, lazy loading, caching strategies, and other optimization techniques for large-scale apps.
Experience developing RESTful APIs and backend integrations, with solid understanding of API design, data flow, and security best practices.
Hands-on experience with databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and caching systems (e.g., Redis) for handling high-volume, low-latency queries.
Proven ability to optimize high-traffic, content-heavy applications for performance, scalability, and SEO.
Familiarity with search and indexing technologies (e.g., Elasticsearch, Atlas Search) and analytics tracking for engagement and conversion.
Comfortable working with monitoring and debugging tools such as Lighthouse, Sentry, Web Vitals, or Grafana to ensure performance and stability.
Strong problem-solving skills, ownership mindset, and ability to collaborate in a cross-functional team.
Nice to Have: Experience using AI tools for development, recommendation systems, or contributions to open-source projects, internal tooling, or engineering blogs.
