Senior Accountant - France

Job Description

We’re looking for a Senior Accountant to play a critical hands-on role in strengthening French accounting operations.

This role is for someone who enjoys preparing, analysing, and fixing and who wants to work at a senior execution level in a complex, growing environment.

You’ll be a key contributor to bringing accounting “back to speed” and supporting audits, tax obligations, and monthly closings.

What you’ll do

• Prepare and post complex accounting entries under French GAAP
• Own preparation for monthly and annual closings
• Prepare statutory accounts and support audits with documentation and explanations
• Handle VAT declarations, corporate tax preparation, and tax filings
• Reconcile payroll entries, social contributions, banks, and balance sheet accounts
• Identify inconsistencies, data quality issues, and propose concrete fixes
• Work closely with internal teams and external partners (auditors, tax advisors, payroll providers) to ensure accurate and timely accounting

What success looks like in the first 6 months

• Accounting preparation is accurate, on time, and well-documented
• Audit preparation runs smoothly with fewer last-minute questions
• Key reconciliations and tax topics are handled with confidence
• Data quality improves, reducing stress and firefighting across the team

What we’re looking for

• High Agency
• Strong, hands-on experience with French GAAP
• Confidence in preparing accounts, reconciliations, and tax-related filings
• You have an eye for detail and can prioritise when faced with multiple priorities
• Comfort operating in a build-and-fix environment
• Extensive background in an accounting firm and/or French startup/scale-up environment is helpful
• DCG / DSCG or equivalent accounting qualification is valued
