Head of Product Design

Job Description

As the Head of Product Design at Scrambly, you will fully own the product design function end-to-end and be responsible for the quality, consistency, and impact of the user experience across all mobile and web products used by millions of users worldwide.

This is a hands-on leadership role. In the initial phase, you will personally design core product experiences while defining Scrambly’s design vision, strategy, standards, and culture. Over time, you will build and lead an internal product design team and scale the design function as the company and product portfolio grow.

You will act as a strategic partner to Product and Engineering leadership, translating business goals, product metrics, and user needs into clear, user-centered design solutions. You will have full ownership over design decisions and will be expected to proactively identify problems, propose solutions, and continuously raise the quality bar across the organization.

Your goal is to establish a world-class product experience and turn Scrambly into a product people genuinely love to use every day.

Key Responsibilities

• Product Discovery & Design Strategy
• Conduct continuous discovery with Product to deeply understand user needs, pain points, motivations, and behaviors
• Analyze user research, product data, funnels, and session replays to identify high-impact design opportunities
• Generate, structure, and prioritize hypotheses for improving usability, engagement, retention, and monetization
• Translate insights into actionable design strategies and experience improvements
• Align design direction with product vision and business objectives
• Experience Design & Craft Excellence
• Own the end-to-end product experience (UX & UI) across all mobile and web products, holding full responsibility for design quality and outcomes
• Design user flows, wireframes, prototypes, high-fidelity mockups, and detailed interaction specifications
• Ensure pixel-perfect execution and maintain a consistently high bar for visual and interaction quality
• Hold the standard for design excellence across the company, ensuring every shipped experience is thoughtful, intuitive, and polished
• Rapid Experimentation & Iteration
• Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering to design and validate fast, low-effort experiments
• Use A/B testing, user feedback, and qualitative and quantitative insights to validate or reject hypotheses
• Iterate quickly based on learnings while maintaining design quality
• Build prototypes that maximize learning while minimizing engineering effort
• Design Systems & Standards
• Create, evolve, and own Scrambly’s design language, components, and interaction patterns
• Establish principles and processes that enable fast, consistent, and scalable design work
• Ensure consistency and coherence across all user touchpoints and platforms
• Collaboration & Communication
• Work closely with Engineering to ensure high-quality implementation of design solutions
• Collaborate with Product, Delivery, Marketing, and Leadership to align strategy and execution
• Communicate design decisions clearly, confidently, and backed by data and insights
• Represent the design function in cross-functional planning and leadership discussions
• Design Leadership & Ownership
• Own all product design decisions and act as the final decision-maker on UX and UI
• Set and continuously raise the quality bar for product design across the organization
• Act as the voice of the user and experience in leadership discussions
• Challenge product or technical decisions when they negatively impact usability or experience
• Leadership & Team Building
• Fully own and manage all external design-related partners and vendors, including design agencies, UX writers, researchers, and other design specialists
• Set direction, review output, enforce quality standards, and make final design decisions across all externally produced design work
• Be fully accountable for the quality, consistency, and impact of all design work produced both internally and externally
• Act as the founding design leader, shaping design culture, standards, and processes
• Hire, mentor, and grow an internal product design team as the company scales
• Lead by example with a strong ownership mindset and hands-on contribution

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in Product Design with a strong focus on mobile-first consumer products (extensive mobile experience is a must)
• A world-class portfolio demonstrating exceptional UX and UI craft, strong product thinking, and shipped end-to-end experiences at meaningful scale
• Proven ability to own complex product areas from problem discovery through to polished implementation
• Strong skills in user research, usability testing, and insight synthesis, with the ability to translate findings into actionable design decisions
• Deep experience with hypothesis-driven design, rapid prototyping, A/B testing, and iterative learning loops
• Ability to consistently deliver high-quality designs at speed without sacrificing clarity, usability, or visual excellence
• Experience acting as a sole or lead designer with full ownership over product design decisions
• Experience leading or mentoring designers, or managing external design partners and agencies
• Ability to break down complex, ambiguous problems into simple, elegant, user-centric solutions
• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to clearly present work, defend decisions confidently, and collaborate cross-functionally
• Ability to experiment with animations, transitions, and microinteractions to elevate the user experience
• Understanding of how to apply AI tools and workflows to accelerate design processes and exploration
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, metrics-driven, iterative startup environment
• Strong ownership mindset, with the ability to operate autonomously and drive clarity in ambiguous situations
• Obsession with design quality and detail, and a commitment to shipping premium, intuitive, and delightful experiences
• Fluency in English (B2+)
