Market Development Manager

Job Description

Start Pay ~ $56,000 annually, with the final salary determined by geographic market rate for the selected candidate.

This role will work from home and can be located in any state in the United States where Rise Against Hunger currently operates.

THE CHALLENGE

Rise Against Hunger is on the verge of beginning a new chapter, an exciting phase in our growth, as we work toward the U.N. Sustainable Development Goal of ending hunger by 2030. Our approach is rooted in our 25-year history as an organization that, among other programs, galvanizes volunteers to produce millions of nutritious meals annually for in-country partners around the world. We’ve also developed an ambitious goal for our growth, to implement our pathways to end hunger framework that includes working toward producing 1 billion meals, funding an increasing number of projects that increase local food production and access to food and addressing hunger and poverty from its root causes for a sustainable end to hunger in our lifetime.

THE ROLE

The Market Development Manager is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospective hosts in support of Rise Against Hunger’s meal packing experiences. Responsible for meeting an annual new business revenue target and working with prospective donors to advance the mission of the organization. This role will work closely with the Regional Donor Engagement team and local Donor Engagement Managers in targeted areas to plan and execute fundraising efforts throughout designated geographies to expand our volunteer meal packing events, sustainability, and food security grants for our non-governmental partner organizations. The Market Development Manager will also support meal packaging operations by facilitating meal packaging events throughout the year.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

80% Market Development

  • Collaborates on and implements strategy for new business growth, including expansion markets in targeted geographies.
  • Identifies and cultivates leads, securing lists of prospective partners, cold calling, and executing moves management.
  • Converts prospective partner organizations into engaged donors and volunteers.
  • Executes activities to identify, cultivate, and solicit organizational donors with an emphasis on maximizing revenue for Rise Against Hunger.
  • Solicits donors for virtual and face to face meetings, including preparation and personalized materials.
  • Updates account and donor records in CRMs (ie. Salesforce and Hubspot) following donor contacts.
  • Works collaboratively with internal teams to secure and develop donor relationships.

20% Meal Packing Experience Facilitation

  • Facilitate and/or support a minimum of 2 events each month.
  • Lead, and speak in front of large groups of volunteers creating a fun and impactful experience. Presentation skills are a must.
  • Drive a large box truck (up to 26 ft). Move pallets and lift 50 lb bags of rice so that we can package our meals for those we serve. Our work environment is often not climate controlled, and could be in a warehouse, board room, hotel ballroom, school cafeteria, or the back of a box truck on a hot summer day.

Perform other duties as assigned or become necessary by supervisor.

Ability to frequently lift 50 lbs. throughout shift, occasionally up to 75 lbs. and move pallets weighing up to 2500 lbs. utilizing pallet jacks and forklifts.

Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled warehouse environment.The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud including playing music and use of a microphone and sound equipment.

This position will work from home and can be located in any of the ~21 states in which Rise Against Hunger (RAH) currently operates. There is a time in which this position may travel to RAH locations for strategic business meetings with a Donor Engagement Team member. The position may also have an opportunity to travel to countries outside of the US where RAH currently works.

About the Team

Our Donor Engagement team leads the charge of recruiting groups who want to host an engaging meal packing experience for their members or employees. We are a team of volunteer coordinators, fundraising and donor relationship professionals with the collective goal of ending world hunger through the communities where we live. We operate a face-paced mission-driven volunteer and donor engagement program with events for businesses, faith-based organizations, and educational institutions. We act as leaders in the movement to end hunger.

Requirements

  • You are age 21 years or older
  • A Bachelor's degree in Sales, Marketing, Development or 4 years of work experience in related field
  • 3-4 years experience in sales and/or fundraising experience required including minimum of 3 years in non-profit fundraising development
  • Proven experience in developing strategies for donor retention growth and recapture and proven success with complex requests is required.
  • Ability to relate well and work effectively with multiple constituencies and audiences.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Knowledge of office systems: GSuite, MS-Office preferred and fundraising database systems (e.g.Salesforce.com).
  • A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • A team player committed to developing and working within a collaborative environment and to ensuring the highest customer service orientation
  • Thorough knowledge of Donor Engagement best practices, Meal Packaging Program execution, and our volunteer offerings.  Ability to relate well and work effectively with multiple constituencies and audiences. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree
  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) certification
  • Proven experience cultivating and securing major donors across high net worth individuals, corporations and /or groups of faith
