About the role

As a result of our incredible success and growth, we are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager who will be aiding the development and day to day management of our wider software development team here at Pion. We're looking for someone with a technical software development background who wants to step into a purely managerial role. This person will guide and support a team of engineers while helping shape our engineering performance and culture.

Responsibilities include-

    • Fortnightly coaching sessions with individual software developers
    • Looking at team performance data (using DORA metrics) and identifying areas to improve
    • Speaking to Tech Leads and Agile Leads to get insights on squads, attending stand ups to get context on work of engineers 
    • Proven experience mentoring, coaching, and developing engineers across different levels.
    • Building a culture of trust, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
    • Prioritising psychological safety and clear communication within the team.
    • Hiring, performance reviews, and career development plans.
    • Managing technical debt, improving processes, and creating space for innovation

Requirements

A little bit about you…


We’d really like to hear from you, if you have…

    • Experience managing a development team using metrics(DORA/SPACE/PACE)
    • Solid experience as a hands-on software engineer in any language at at least a mid-level engineer.
    • Proven experience mentoring, coaching, and developing engineers across different levels.
    • Experience of building a culture of trust, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
    • Experience prioritising psychological safety and clear communication within the team.
    • Deep understanding of modern software development practices: CI/CD, agile methodologies, testing, cloud infrastructure, etc.
    • Comfortable participating in architectural decisions and guiding technical direction
