The Job
We are looking for an experienced Data Engineering Manager to drive our Data Engineering efforts. You will lead a cross functional team of Data Engineers (a mix of direct and dotted-line reports), own, enhance and update Data Engineering processes and standards, understand company needs, and own and execute critical projects on our Data Engineering roadmap. This role sits within our Engineering department and will report directly to our Director of Data Management and Information Security. This role is remote, but there would be a preference in location to where some of this team is located Pittsburgh, Seattle, Upstate NY, Denver area.

Lead, mentor and coach a team of six Data Engineering professionals, fostering a collaborative environment.Establish and continuously improve Data Engineering architecture, processes and standardsProvide mentoring, coaching and leadership to matrixed (dotted-line) Data EngineersOwn and Lead Critical Data Engineering Projects (33%)
Own successful outcome and positive impact for critical large scale data engineering projects including project management and communicationMitigate risks and clear blockersCollaborate cross functionally to drive initiativesContribute hands-on to the work as neededOwn the Data Engineering Roadmap and Strategy (33%)
Establish, communicate and maintain a rolling 5 Quarter roadmap for Data EngineeringDrive stakeholder alignment on roadmap and prioritizationEnsure scalable and cost effective architectureWho You Are
Data Engineering Expertise: You have in-depth knowledge of Data Engineering processes and standards. Data Architecture Experience: You are comfortable with data architecture and patterns for both structured and unstructured data.Leadership Abilities: You possess strong leadership skills, with the ability to provide mentoring cross-functionally.Communication: You have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Value Creation: You understand business needs, users, technology, and data, and collaborate with stakeholders to design and deliver data solutions that provide business value.Problem-Solving: You demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying issues and implementing effective solutions.Experience You’ll Need
5+ years experience as a Data Engineer3+ years experience as a people managerExperience successfully managing large scale data engineering projectsProficiency with distributed systems like Spark, Kafka and data lakesExperience working with time series and/or IoT dataExperience with cloud platforms like AWS or AzureUnderstanding of data modeling principlesProficiency with object oriented programming languages such as PythonComfortable with SQLExperience That's a Plus
Solar Industry experienceExperience with DatabricksExperience with RDSWork-life and Culture
