Junior Software Engineer (Linux)

Role Summary

Our Engineering team develop the next generation of Sophos products and technologies for which we’ve become known around the world. We are passionate about utilizing new technologies, approaches, and products to revolutionize how security technology interacts with the user; engaged in solving the problem of balancing detection, protection, and performance; and have a penchant for solving complex technical challenges in a creative manner. 
This role provides the opportunity to work in an open and collaborative Agile environment as part of our Linux team, developing our ever-growing Cloud-managed Linux Endpoint solution. You will have the opportunity to work on cutting edge projects at the forefront of the industry including Detection, Protection, and Remediation functionality as part of XDR and MDR solutions. 


What you will do
  • Write product code along with test automation to deliver against project timescales, quality and requirements  
  • Actively contribute to release planning and drive for high-value and high-quality solutions which meet business needs 
  • Participate in the design of products in line with asset technical strategy, quality and functionality requirements  
  • Help onboard and mentor more junior team members and participate in skills-sharing exercises 
  • Establish an area of responsibility within the team for which you are the foremost expert 
  • Contribute to daily stand-ups, kick-offs, collaborative triages and retrospective meetings 
  • Participate in security reviews of new developments to ensure that released products comply with Sophos’ security requirements and industry best practice

  • Experience and skills
  • Experience of developing code in C++  
  • Working knowledge of Python and bash 
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly and apply them to the role 
  • Technical problem solving 
  • Effective communicator with different types of audience 
  • BEng in Computer Science or other numerate discipline, or equivalent experience

  • Experience of developing software on Linuxplatforms 
  • Experience with automated regression testing (e.g. Robot Framework) 
  • Experience of working within Agile development methodologies 
  • Experience of continuous integration, build and test
