General Overview

We are looking for a Staff Engineer/Senior Technical Lead to lead the charge on maintaining the highest code quality in Space Inch. Your main responsibility will be ensuring codebase quality and integrity across multiple projects with a diverse range of clients. You’ll also be the strategist/architect of how to approach these projects from a development standpoint in the first place, then taking a step back for other developers to implement that vision with your guidance.

You will be working with Space Inch teammates as well as client team members on this project.  Space Inch team members partner with our client’s team to comprise a large portion of five different combined teams.

About Working at Space Inch

  • Our team is primarily based in Croatia (~50 people), with members in South America, Serbia, and the US. While focus is on working remotely, we do have an office in Zagreb for those who prefer a hybrid approach and are located nearby.
  • Occasional travel may be required, including annual company retreats in Croatia.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in full-stack development, of which at least 3 in tech leadership positions.
  • Familiarity with different programming languages, but with a focus on Python, Vue.js, React and Node as those are mainstays of our tech stack; experience with .NET, mobile, Golang is a plus because these are also technologies we sometimes work with.
  • Strong skills in setting up design architecture for new projects/features, along with experience in estimating and overseeing implementation.
  • Full-time availability (40 hrs/week)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing estimates and designing architectures for new projects or features.
  • Reviewing plans and estimates proposed by engineers during sprint grooming.
  • Conducting code reviews to ensure high-quality standards.
  • Assisting engineers in overcoming technical challenges when they encounter roadblocks.
  • Writing code for the projects as needed.

Qualities for Success:

  • Hands-On Approach: Dive into the details by reviewing code, engaging in discussions with team members during sprint meetings, and validating plans.
  • Estimate Accuracy: Assist with producing the first draft of estimates with nuance based on the discovery session. Verify that project estimates are accurate and align with the scope of work.
  • Proactive Problem Solving: Identify and address challenges promptly, especially when teams or individuals encounter difficulties.
  • Client Needs. Understand business needs of the clients and be able to articulate those needs to engineers.
