For one of our clients, we are looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails - Core Scribd), remotely from United States and Canada.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Core Scribd team, you’ll be responsible for designing and building scalable backend services that support millions of users. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, including front-end engineers, infrastructure teams, and data platform teams, to ensure the backend infrastructure is optimized for performance and reliability. Your work will focus on enhancing user experiences, supporting ads monetization, and driving growth. In this role, you will leverage Ruby on Rails to develop high-throughput services while driving best practices in software development, such as code quality, testing, and maintainability.

Accountabilities:

  • Design and build scalable backend systems that handle large volumes of traffic and support millions of users.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement new features and enhance existing ones.
  • Develop and maintain high-throughput backend services that support user-facing applications.
  • Drive the adoption of best practices in software development, including maintaining code quality and performance optimization.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in a distributed system environment.
  • Lead the development and integration of robust APIs to ensure seamless service delivery.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails and experience building and maintaining scalable backend services.
  • Experience with high-throughput systems, capable of handling 500+ requests per second.
  • In-depth knowledge of database architecture and best practices.
  • Familiarity with AWS services (e.g., S3, SQS), MySQL, Airflow, Databricks, GitHub, and Terraform.
  • Knowledge of JavaScript and React is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative attitude.
