Data Analyst

Job Description

Challenges You Will Solve
The Business Data Infrastructure (BDI) Team is the beating heart of our business data and analytics ecosystem at Red Canary, ensuring that all insights, decisions, and innovations are powered by consistent, accurate, and accessible data.

The BDI team takes a data product approach, where the hub serves as the platform for developing and managing data products. We defined data products as discrete, reusable datasets or pipelines that are curated to meet the needs of various stakeholders. These data products are treated like standalone assets, each with a clear purpose, defined ownership, and measurable quality standards. This ensures consistent delivery of tangible value to the spokes (the various departments across Red Canary).

By aligning the design, governance, and delivery of data products with user needs, we ensure that data is not just accessible but also usable, meaningful, and trusted. Thus, BDI is not a passive data store, but a marketplace of data products, enabling our teams to innovate faster while maintaining enterprise-level standards and cohesion.

We are seeking a Data Analyst to help bridge that gap between raw data and actionable insight, ensuring that the right data is available, understandable, and impactful for business decision-makers.

This role will work closely with various teams to understand their challenges, translate business needs into data requirements, and curate datasets that empower decision-making. They will use SQL, Python, Sagemaker and other modern BI tools to construct insight-centric data products, dashboards, and reports that deliver meaningful analysis – partnering with business leaders, analysts, and data engineers to deliver trusted, high-quality insights that drive innovation and operational efficiency.

What You'll Do
  • Collaborate with Business Teams to Define Analytical Needs – Work closely with stakeholders across Red Canary to understand key challenges, define analytical problems, and scope data-driven solutions that drive decision-making.
  • Source, Curate, and Prepare Data – Extract and integrate data from various systems (in close partnership with our Data Engineering team) using SQL and Python – to ensure clean, well-structured datasets that support deep analysis and reporting.
  • Develop Insight-Centric Data Products – Design and maintain reusable, well-documented datasets, metrics, and dashboards that empower teams to make data-informed decisions.
  • Create Dashboards and Reports – Leverage BI tools (such as Quicksight, Tableau, or Streamlit) to render insights in an accessible, visually compelling manner, enabling non-technical users to explore and act on data effectively.
  • Enable Decision Intelligence – Translate analytical findings into actionable guidance, helping teams optimize strategies and tactics based on data-driven information and insights.
  • Ensure Data Quality and Consistency – Collaborate with stakeholders and data engineering to validate data quality, diagnose source-system issues and govern/maintain feedback loops which ensure high-quality, reliable, and trustworthy data.
  • Partner with Data Engineers – Work alongside data engineers to improve data pipelines, enhance accessibility, and ensure analytics needs are met efficiently.

  • What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree or equivalent work experience in a relevant field such as Data Science, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of proven experience as a Data Analyst, SQL Engineer, Jr. Data Scientist or similar – preferably in a startup or fast-paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases, distributed storage and semi/un-structured data.
  • Strong experience working with dashboard tools such as Tableau, Quicksight or Graphnikov.
  • Some experience with custom graph development in matplotlib, Streamlit or altair.
  • Some experience working within cloud computing platforms, such as AWS, GCP or Azure.
  • Exposure to distributed computing, pySpark or production data pipeline is a plus.
  • Experience with some of our primary data sources is a plus (Intacct, Salesforce, Zendesk, Jira)
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to assess a complex problem set and distill insight into a focused, durable and understandable data product.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively present complex findings and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team and across a distributed customer base.
