DevOps Engineer, Moodle Sites

Are you passionate about DevOps, development, and open-source communities? We’re looking  for a DevOps Engineer to play a key role in supporting, maintaining and improving Moodle’s Academy and Community sites. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the stability, security, and scalability of our community platforms, leading infrastructure improvements, and contributing to Moodle development efforts.

This is a fully flexible role and candidates can be based anywhere in Europe!

What your new job can look like

At Moodle, no two days will ever be the same, but most days in this role usually involve a mix of:

  • Maintaining and enhancing Moodle Community sites, ensuring reliability and performance.
  • Upgrading sites to every Moodle minor & major release.
  • Implementing improvements and changes to the community sites' front and backend.
  • Testing and developing custom features for the community sites.
  • Debugging reported problems and providing technical resolutions.

Requirements

We’d love to meet you

Especially if you can tell us about your:

  • Strong knowledge of Moodle development.
  • Strong PHP programming, SQL, database management and linux scripting experience.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript & Ajax, Python,.
  • Extensive experience troubleshooting network, system and application issues: 
    • using Docker and Kubernetes orchestration.
    • utilising and administration of code repositories (Git / GitHub / GitLab).
    • working in a large-scale development environment using hosted AWS infrastructure. 
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and a collaborative/team approach to execution.
  • Collaborative and team focused attitude, a willingness to embrace the culture, all with a genuine passion for helping Moodle advance our mission.

Desirable, but not essential:

  • Experience with MediaWiki cloning and upgrading.
  • Experience working in a remote, agile environment.
