Job Description

NLA media access limited represents the intellectual property rights of prominent publishing brands in the UK – more than 14,000 newspaper and magazine print and web titles, from over 300 publishers. The company also operates a database providing content and services to media monitoring agencies and publishers, containing ~250 million articles from print and web publications.

We are looking for a Technical Business Analyst for our technology department. You'll be responsible for understanding, documenting and improving our business processes and facilitating more-automated, efficient and streamlined digital solutions. You'll work across the business with our technical and commercial teams and with suppliers who provide external development and operations.

To be successful in this role you will be an enthusiastic self-starter who will be able to bridge the divide between business and technical domains. You won't need to be an engineer, but you will be technical enough to understand the capability of the systems we use both currently and in the future.

The role reports into the Head of Business Intelligence and Process Automation which is part of the technology & digital team. The majority of the technology team work remotely, and our sales and finance teams are 'hybrid' with a mix of working from home and from our bright and spacious headquarters in Royal Tunbridge Wells. This role will be remote (UK-based), with an expectation of one or two days per month in the office. If preferred, there is also the option to be totally office based. The office is less than a 5 minute walk from the train station, with trains directly into London and elsewhere.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the identification and analysis of IT system capabilities, developing models and system requirements, meeting with users both in-person and virtually
  • Use systems analysis to support a deeper understanding of how processes and systems work, and to identify gaps
  • Meet with users both in-person and virtually to define solutions and transform business practices.
  • work with other digital professionals to design and develop system and user interfaces, identify gaps in functionality and assess the effect of proposed software changes on users or the organisation
  • recommend the value of testing and apply the relevant tools and techniques to ensure test validity
  • advise on business scenarios and develop acceptance criteria to ensure requirements can be identified to develop functionality
  • review prototypes, test plans and test outcome reporting
  • suggest metrics to help measure and manage the business
  • Help design solutions which meet user expectations, budgets and timeframes
  • Utilise your experience to identify and mitigate common pitfalls in digital delivery
  • Work in tandem with other members of the technology team to serve as the subject matter expert on the business processes across the organisation
  • Communicate results and statuses to users and programme or delivery managers.
  • Develop and deliver system training as needed

Requirements

  • Ability to understand and map out complex business processes using Lucid or similar
  • Demonstrate prior experience in a business analyst role (>5 years)
  • Experience of delivering change and transformation
  • Able to rapidly grow your network in the organisation to identify and collaborate with our engineers, analysts and the wider business to help develop new solutions and capabilities to meet user needs.
  • Our Technology ecosystem currently consists of Looker, BigQuery, Retool, Zapier, Sage and Close, plus various peripheral systems. Whilst you do not need to be an expert in these, an ability to understand their capabilities is essential.
  • Ability to quickly understand technical concepts having worked with complex systems and businesses.
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders with the confidence to make reasoned arguments
  • Ability to organise and manage workload efficiently and prioritise projects with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills having a curious but pragmatic approach.
  • Ideally having worked in an Agile environment
