For one of our clients, we are looking for a Payroll Manager, working remotely from the United States.

As a Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the full payroll process for a growing workforce across multiple U.S. states and international locations. This role requires deep expertise in multi-state payroll compliance, tax regulations, and payroll systems. You will ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, maintain compliance with payroll tax laws, and manage relationships with external payroll providers. Additionally, you will play a key role in supporting audits, payroll reporting, and collaborating with internal teams to optimize payroll operations.

Accountabilities:

  • Manage and process payroll across multiple U.S. states and international locations, ensuring compliance with local tax laws and labor regulations.
  • Oversee payroll submissions, including salary, bonuses, commissions, and benefits deductions, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.
  • Maintain strong relationships with Employer of Record (EOR) providers to facilitate international payroll compliance and variable pay submissions.
  • Administer equity-related payroll responsibilities and coordinate international equity compliance.
  • Ensure payroll tax compliance at the federal, state, and international levels, handling state registrations and responding to tax notices.
  • Support 401(k) administration, including contribution processing and audit collaboration.
  • Lead year-end payroll activities, including W-2 generation and distribution.
  • Provide payroll data for workers' compensation audits, R&D tax credit filings, and other reporting needs.
  • Address employee payroll inquiries with a strong focus on customer service and accuracy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of payroll management experience, with a focus on multi-state payroll compliance.
  • Experience working with Employer of Record (EOR) providers to manage international payroll.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with payroll audits, 401(k) administration, and compliance reviews.
  • Proficiency with payroll systems, with experience using platforms such as Rippling, Deel, Remote, or Fidelity preferred.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage confidential data.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, such as a startup or small team.
