About the role 

As a DevOps/DevSecOps/SR Engineer you will be part of the Developer Experience (DevX) team at Kenect. As a lead you will manage a small sub-team of DevOps/DevSecOps/SR Engineers in a player/coach capacity. You will have in-depth experience and knowledge within at least one of the DevOps, DevSecOps, or SRE disciplines and solid experience in the other two. The goal of the DevX team is to assist the feature development teams to increase security, availability, reliability, monitoring and alerting, code quality, and delivery speed. You will be expected to produce high-quality code for tools, automation, and PoCs, as well as clear and concise documentation and diagrams for the engineers to follow. There will also be many opportunities to consult with engineers and engineering leaders to solve difficult problems related to infrastructure, cloud architecture, and CI/CD. Improving engineering efficiency, effectiveness, and enjoyment should be a core consideration in every discussion. 

What You Will Be Doing 

• Foster a DevOps/DevSecOps/SRE mindset on all the cross-functional teams, help engineers define, manage, monitor, and troubleshoot their software and its infrastructure 

• Manage a remote-first team of DevOps/DevSecOps/SR Engineers, either remotely, or from our office in Pleasant Grove, UT 

• Cost management and maintaining vendor relationships 

• Proactively find ways to improve Kenect's security posture, and work with architecture to address issues 

• Improve our SLAs, SLOs, SLIs, and associated alerting, so engineers know about every urgent problem in a timely manner without false alarms 

• Troubleshoot production incidents, participate in post-mortems, assist engineers in tracking down root causes, and help to identify solutions designed to prevent future incidents 

• Maintain awareness of cloud technologies and architectural patterns to judiciously recommend tools that add value to the business 

• Contribute to large scale initiatives (e.g. migrations); identifying necessary changes to infrastructure, networks, and security 

• Automate everything; strive to improve the tooling we provide to software engineers 

• Be agile, and help the engineering teams to be agile too 

• Scale and monitor databases (Cloud SQL PostgreSQL and MySQL) 

• Be a Kubernetes expert and use this expertise to improve Kenect's software uptime and security, etc. 

• Manage and provision resources in Google Cloud and Kubernetes 

• Contribute to efforts to achieve multi-region application availability 

• Be part of an on-call rotation 

Skills & Qualifications  

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, (or equivalent experience) 

• Experience with containerized environments and container orchestration engines, especially Kubernetes 

• 10+ years of combined professional experience in cloud/DevOps/DevSecOps/SRE with a minimum of 4 years in a public cloud 

• Experience with managing a team, especially in a player/coach capacity 

• Profound knowledge of networking and security principles and protocols 

• Experience in automation using tools like GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, Shell, Python, Terraform, Saltstack, Jinja, CircleCI, NewRelic, with a strong preference for these specific tools 

• Written and verbal fluency in English language for effective communication
