Purpose Statement

The Corporate Controller will drive financial accuracy, cash flow optimization, and operational efficiency to meet profitability and growth objectives for the company. This role focuses on managing cash in the bank, accelerating accounts receivable (AR) collections, and implementing cost-saving measures to achieve expected net profit. Additionally, the Corporate Controller is responsible for comprehensive contract review and compliance, ensuring all project and client contracts meet regulatory, insurance, and operational standards. This role also includes preparing necessary documents for external auditors and collaborating with them to facilitate the audit process. Overseeing Human Resources functions, the Corporate Controller aligns HR practices with strategic goals, fostering a productive and growth-focused work environment.

Accountability Summary

  • Cash Flow & Liquidity Management: Prioritize cash management by closely monitoring cash levels, forecasting needs, and managing banking relationships. Develop strategies to optimize cash flow, ensure liquidity, and maximize returns on excess cash balances.
  • Accounts Receivable Collection: Lead AR collection efforts, ensuring timely billing and client follow-up to minimize collection periods. Implement policies and KPIs to improve collection efficiency, reducing outstanding receivables and optimizing cash availability.
  • Cost Control & Profit Optimization: Develop and enforce cost-control measures across all operations. Implement best practices in procurement and inventory management to reduce expenses, maximize profit margins, and minimize waste. Collaborate with department heads to maintain spending within budgetary targets.
  • Financial Reporting & Compliance: Oversee preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements, reforecasts, and budgets, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to GAAP. Provide clear reporting to the CEO with insights into cost management and profitability.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the development of annual budgets and ongoing reforecasts. Analyze performance variances and provide actionable insights to support decision-making focused on achieving net profit goals.
  • Internal Controls & Audit Preparation: Design, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets, particularly cash and AR. Prepare necessary documentation for external auditors and work with them throughout the audit process to ensure efficient, accurate reporting and compliance.
  • Contract Review & Compliance:
    • Contract Processing & Documentation: Review construction contracts and oversee internal contract processing, ensuring compliance documentation is provided as required. Monitor the contract execution process by coordinating with project managers and administrative staff to ensure adherence to contractual obligations.
    • Notice of Commencement & Furnishing: Prepare and file Notices of Commencement and Notices of Furnishing for all projects. Ensure these filings are completed promptly to secure lien rights and protect the company’s receivables.
    • Insurance Compliance: Oversee insurance compliance for all construction contracts. Work closely with the company’s insurance agent to meet client and project-specific insurance requirements, ensuring all coverage aligns with contractual obligations.
  • Bidding & Pre-Qualification Compliance:
    • Bidding Document Review: During the bidding process, review bid documents for accuracy and compliance. Complete required information and ensure all documentation meets bid specifications.
    • Pre-Qualification Management: Review and finalize pre-qualification documents, ensuring they are compliant before submission. Maintain compliance with industry standards for bidding requirements.
  • Regulatory & Legal Compliance:
    • State & Local Reporting: Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards. Manage submissions and renewals for MBE, SBE, and EDGE certifications with state and local governments.
    • Contract Compliance & Reporting: Oversee contract compliance, including state and local reporting, and ensure accurate and timely filing of all required documentation.
  • Strategic Financial Planning: Develop (in conjunction with Leadership)  and implement 1-3-5-10 year financial strategies, including tactical goals, to support company growth, profitability, and competitive advantage.
  • Human Resources Management: Oversee recruitment, retention, and training programs, ensuring alignment with company culture and strategic HR objectives. Implement cost-effective HR initiatives, manage employee relations, and promote talent development. Including process payroll taxes processing and filling. 
  • Technology & Process Improvement: Support ongoing technology upgrades and system improvements to enhance financial, HR, and operational processes.

Requirements

Education, Experience, and Skills Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a focus on Accounting.
  • CPA designation preferred but not required.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years in a controller or equivalent role with increasing responsibilities; experience in service-oriented or construction-related sectors is highly desirable.
  • Strong preference for candidates with construction accounting expertise.

Skills

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise 3-4 administrative teams, including Payroll, HR, Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Contract Administration, and IT.

Technical Proficiency

  • Proficient with Microsoft office product (Word, Excel), Sage 100, and Salesforce.

Salary: $2000-$2500 USD per month
