Job Description

Packback’s mission is to empower every student to be fearlessly curious and find their unique voice.

These few words shape everything we do at Packback from the smallest decision to the largest. Over the last decade since our company’s founding, our team has seen first-hand the power of giving students intentionally designed spaces in their learning experience to be autonomous and curious. We have also seen the incredible benefits of using AI technology to shorten feedback loops and help students revise their work before they submit.

Packback is a pedagogy partner that uses technology as a “means to an end” to shorten feedback loops for students and instructors, improve writing and critical thinking skills, and cultivate student-centered, trust-based educational learning environments.

About the role

We’re looking for a Senior Director of Marketing to lead our marketing function—owning narrative, content, and product marketing—while guiding a high-performing team responsible for demand generation and marketing operations.

This is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping how Packback shows up in the market. You will own positioning, messaging, content strategy, and go-to-market execution, while managing a lean team that drives pipeline generation and marketing performance.

You’ll operate as both a strategic leader and a hands-on contributor—developing core narratives, building content engines, and ensuring our marketing efforts translate into measurable growth.

What you'll own

  • Marketing Strategy & Pipeline Oversight
    • Own overall marketing strategy and performance across the funnel
    • Set direction for demand generation programs while empowering team members to execute
    • Ensure alignment between messaging, campaigns, and target audiences
    • Partner with Sales and RevOps to align on ICP, funnel stages, and pipeline performance
  • Product Marketing & Positioning (Core Focus)
    • Own Packback’s narrative in the market, especially around AI in higher education
    • Define and evolve positioning, messaging, and differentiation across products and audiences
    • Partner with Product and Sales to bring new features and solutions to market
    • Ensure messaging is grounded in real customer outcomes (engagement, retention, AI literacy)
  • Content and Thought Leadership
    • Build and scale Packback’s content engine across formats (eBooks, webinars, research, blog, events)
    • Establish Packback as a category leader in Instructional AI
    • Develop compelling, insight-driven content that drives awareness and supports conversion
    • Amplify executive and customer voices to build credibility in the market
  • Customer Marketing & Proof
    • Lead development of customer stories, testimonials, and case studies
    • Partner with Customer Success and Sales to capture and package outcomes
    • Turn customer insights into high-impact marketing and sales assets
  • Team Leadership & Execution
    • Manage and develop two direct reports:Demand Generation & Marketing Operations
    • Provide strategic direction while maintaining high standards for execution and accountability
    • Coach team members to improve performance across campaigns, systems, and reporting
    • Step in as a hands-on contributor when needed across messaging, campaigns, and launches

What Success Looks Like

  • Clear, differentiated positioning in the market
  • A consistent and scalable content engine that drives awareness and engagement
  • Strong alignment between product, marketing, and sales narratives
  • High-quality pipeline driven by effective messaging and campaigns
  • A high-performing, accountable marketing team with clear ownership and results

Why This Role Matters

This role defines how Packback shows up in the market at a critical moment for AI in education. You will shape the narrative, build the content engine, and lead the team that translates that story into growth.

If you’re excited about building a category, telling a compelling story, and leading a team that turns that story into real impact, this is the role.

What We're Looking For

Experience

  • 8–12+ years in B2B SaaS marketing, with experience across product marketing and content strategy
  • Familiarity with CRM and marketing automation tools (Salesforce, HubSpot)
  • Proven ability to define positioning and bring products to market effectively
  • Experience building or evolving a brand and positioning within an emerging or competitive category
  • Experience leveraging customer insights and voice-of-customer data to inform messaging, positioning, and content
  • Experience hiring, developing, and managing high-performing marketing teams
  • Experience leading or overseeing demand generation and pipeline performance
  • Background in EdTech, higher education, or mission-driven SaaS is a strong plus

Skills & Mindset

  • Strong product marketing instincts with the ability to translate complexity into clear value
  • Experience building and scaling content and thought leadership programs
  • Hands-on approach: comfortable writing, shaping messaging, and guiding execution
  • Analytical enough to understand funnel performance and connect marketing to revenue
  • Strong cross-functional collaborator across Product, Sales, RevOps, and Customer Success

Leadership

  • Experience managing small, high-performing teams
  • Ability to set direction while staying close to the work
  • Comfortable leading through influence and driving alignment across functions
