Job Description

⭐ Role Overview

As a Principal DevOps Engineer at Lodgify, you will drive the strategic direction and architectural excellence of our infrastructure, platform, and DevOps practices. You will ensure our infrastructure decisions align with business goals, enable software delivery at scale, and uphold the highest standards of reliability, security, performance, and cost efficiency.

Scope & impact

This is an interdomain role (outside the boundaries of individual squads). You will guide teams and strategic initiatives across the organization, settle technical disagreements, evaluate emerging technologies, and maintain oversight of architectural quality and operational excellence across the platform, designing for today’s needs and future (10x) growth.

⭐ How will you make an impact?
  • Set strategy & lead initiatives: Define and drive long-term infrastructure/platform strategy aligned with business objectives and R&D needs; lead cross-org initiatives (e.g., multi-cloud strategy, disaster recovery architecture, platform modernization).

  • Architect for scale & resilience: Design robust, scalable, secure architectures; run architectural reviews to identify systemic issues/tech debt and optimization opportunities; define rollout strategies for high-impact changes (DB migrations, Kubernetes upgrades, network redesigns) to ensure continuity.

  • Elevate developer experience: Evolve internal developer platforms and tools (self-service infrastructure, golden paths/paved roads); establish IaC + GitOps standards and reusable patterns that balance productivity, safety, compliance, and cost.

  • Raise reliability & performance standards: Establish org-wide reliability practices (SLOs/SLIs/error budgets); drive observability/alerting strategy; reduce toil and improve MTTR through automation and self-healing; identify bottlenecks and implement efficiency improvements.

  • Security & compliance by design: Lead platform-wide security and compliance evolutions (zero trust, encryption in transit/at rest, regulatory compliance); strengthen controls (segmentation, secrets, access, vulnerability management) and secure the software supply chain.

  • Cost accountability (FinOps): Improve cost visibility and governance; identify cost optimizations across cloud, databases, and services without compromising reliability or performance.

  • Influence & grow talent: Coach DevOps Engineers, Senior DevOps Engineers, and Tech Leads; contribute to promotion committees; build learning paths and knowledge-sharing for the infrastructure community.

  • Incident leadership: Provide escalation support for complex incidents; lead post-incident reviews and drive improvements to incident response processes and tooling.

  • ⭐ What makes you a great fit?
  • Expert-level knowledge of cloud platforms (GCP/AWS), Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code (Pulumi/Terraform), and modern DevOps practices

  • Hands-on experience with platform engineering at scale (developer platforms, paved roads, self-service)
  • Proven ability to design large-scale, distributed systems, balancing complexity, reliability, and cost

  • Track record in translating business objectives into infrastructure strategy and technical roadmaps

  • Strong leadership through influence (guiding multiple teams without direct authority)

  • Excellent communication in English (written and verbal), able to explain complex technical topics to mixed audiences

  • Systems thinking: understanding of how infrastructure, applications, data, and security interact across the stack

  • Expert-level troubleshooting and problem-solving in ambiguous, high-impact environments

  • Deep awareness of industry trends and best practices (cloud, DevOps, platform engineering)

  • Advanced certifications (e.g., Google Cloud Professional Architect, AWS SA Professional, CKA/CKAD/CKS, security certifications).
