BenchSci is looking for a VP of Marketing to redefine what a marketing department looks like in the age of generative intelligence. You will own BenchSci’s brand, demand, and market position in biopharma R&D — and build the agentic infrastructure to power it, from scratch.
Success at the end of Year One looks like:
BenchSci is the definitive brand for AI in drug discovery. Scientists know us and executive buyers come to us. Our narrative shapes the category.
You’ve built the most efficient marketing function in biopharma SaaS — a Team of One directing a fleet of AI agents and autonomous workflows, delivering outcomes that would traditionally require a team many times the size.
Marketing is a measurable driver of lead generation — feeding Sales a consistent, qualified pipeline, not just running campaigns.
Both the brand outcome and the operating model matter. A beautiful agentic stack that doesn’t move the brand isn’t enough. A strong brand built through traditional playbooks isn’t enough either. This role exists because we believe both are possible at once — and we’re looking for the person who believes it too.
A note on structure: This is a “Team of One” by design, and you’ll build it from zero. You will not inherit a team, agencies, or contractor relationships — you will architect the agent workforce yourself. What you will have: a significant budget for best-in-class AI tools and infrastructure, deep partnership with Sales, Account Services, and our scientific team, a seat on the senior leadership team, and direct access to the CEO. We believe one person with the right judgment and the right tooling outperforms a traditional marketing org.
Brand & positioning. Position BenchSci as the essential AI platform for scientific discovery, with narratives that resonate with both lab scientists and executive buyers.
Demand & lead generation. Accountable for marketing’s contribution to lead generation and pipeline. Partner with Sales to execute account-based marketing (ABM) at a scale with precision previously impossible, targeting key personas within top-tier pharmaceutical organizations.
ABM into top-tier pharma accounts.
The agentic marketing stack. Design, deploy, and operate a workforce of AI agents across content, SEO, performance, lead scoring, social, and market intelligence. You are the architect and the operator.
Strategy & execution. Set the annual marketing strategy and budget. Translate it into monthly plans with clear outcomes. Run the function end-to-end.
Market intelligence. Build autonomous loops that surface competitive landscapes, scientific literature, and industry signals that keep BenchSci ahead of the market.
Editorial judgment. You are the human layer above every agent workflow. Brand voice, scientific accuracy, and quality sit with you.
Cross-functional leverage. Work closely with Product Marketing, Sales, and Science. The shape of the function will evolve as the company does; you’ll help define it.
AI-native operator: You don’t just use AI tools — you orchestrate them. You understand agentic frameworks, LLM orchestration, and how to automate multi-step marketing workflows end-to-end. You can describe the architecture, the failure modes, and the judgment calls.
Biopharma fluent: You speak the language of the lab. You understand the nuances of drug discovery, clinical timelines, and the realities of selling into pharma R&D.
A "full-Stack" marketing leader: Since you are the sole human member of the team, you must be comfortable moving between high-level board strategy and the technical plumbing of your stack without losing signal.
Radically efficient: You have a natural disdain for traditional corporate bloat and a passion for proving that intelligence plus automation beats headcount every time.
10+ years in marketing leadership, with 3–5 years specifically in biopharma, life sciences, or HealthTech.
Proven track record of building brand awareness and category position in a technical B2B market.
A track record of pipeline ownership — accountable for revenue or pipeline contribution, not just campaign metrics.
Demonstrated experience building and operating AI-driven marketing workflows. You can walk us through the architecture you’ve built.
Exceptional communicator across scientific and executive audiences.
Comfortable operating without a team — you see it as leverage, not limitation.
