Job Description

The MS-SQL DBA will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing Microsoft SQL Server databases hosted on AWS infrastructure. This role combines traditional DBA responsibilities with cloud engineering skills to ensure high availability, security, and performance of database systems in a hybrid or fully cloud-based environment.
 
❗ Please note: this role is NOT a B2B contract. This is a Full-Time permanent role.
 
📍 Location:  This is a full remote role.
 


What you will do:
  • Database Administration:
  • o Install, configure, and upgrade Microsoft SQL Server instances on AWS(EC2, RDS, RDS Custom).
    o Perform proactive performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
    o Manage database backups, restores, and disaster recovery strategies.
    o Implement high availability solutions (Always On Availability Groups,replication).
    o Lead migration efforts from on-premises SQL environments to AWS RDS.
  • AWS Integration:
  • o Deploy and manage SQL databases using AWS services such as RDS,Aurora, and EC2.
    o Utilize AWS tools like CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and IAM for monitoring and security.
    o Implement Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK with TypeScript for database provisioning.
  • • Security and Compliance:
  • o Enforce database security policies, encryption, and access controls.
    o Ensure compliance with industry standards (GDPR, ISO 27001, SOC 2) and internal governance.
  • Operational Excellence:
  • o Monitor system health and performance metrics.
    o Troubleshoot database and AWS-related issues promptly.
    o Maintain detailed documentation of configurations and operational procedures.
  • • Collaboration:
  • o Work closely with Cloud Operations and Application teams for migrations and integrations.
    o Participate in planning and execution of database modernization initiatives.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to support critical infrastructure, respond to operational incidents, and ensure high availability.

  • What you will bring:
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server administration (installation, tuning, HA/DR).
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services (RDS, EC2, IAM, VPC).
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (PowerShell, Python, or similar).
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (AWS CDK with TypeScript).
  • Knowledge of networking concepts and AWS security best practices.
  • At least 10 years as a DBA, including 3 years with AWS.
  • Nice-to-Have:
  • • Experience with AWS Database Migration Service (DMS).
    • AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate certified
    • Exposure to observability tools (New Relic, CloudWatch, Datadog).
    • Familiarity with cost optimization strategies in AWS.
