Team

The CXAI Engineering team, part of Coinbase’s Enterprise Applications and Architecture organization, crafts the customer-facing and internal experiences that connect the Help Center, chatbots (CBCB), and agent workflows. We own core web and app chat interfaces and Help Center surfaces, collaborating closely with Conversation Design, CX, and ML/platform teams to deliver secure, compliant, and scalable AI-powered support. Our mission is to enhance the quality, responsiveness, and measurability of automated and agent-assisted experiences—enabling faster customer answers and more effective support resolutions.

We’re seeking a highly skilled Backend-Heavy Full Stack Engineer to drive pivotal CXAI initiatives within Help Center and Chat, including chatbot UI revamps, response quality and latency enhancements, and platformization efforts like shared evaluation frameworks for Coinbase and vendor bots. You will own the full lifecycle of features spanning Help Center, Chat, and Agent workflows, with a focus on building reliable, scalable, and AI-enabled products.

What you’ll be doing

  • Build and evolve customer support experiences across web surfaces, including Help Center, chat, and agent-facing tools, in close partnership with Product, Design, and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Define and integrate service APIs and contracts with partner teams, including events/metrics instrumentation, error handling patterns, and multi-locale considerations.
  • Implement modern, accessible, and performant frontend UI components (e.g., rich conversational interfaces, feedback and survey experiences, and stateful workflow screens).
  • Integrate AI/LLM-powered capabilities into user-facing products (e.g., streamed responses, retrieval-backed answers with citations, feedback collection, and safe fallback/guardrail experiences).
  • Deliver end-to-end features from technical design through implementation, testing, launch, and iteration—balancing customer impact, delivery timelines, and long-term maintainability.
  • Improve product quality and performance by investigating bottlenecks, reducing latency, strengthening reliability, and enhancing observability (dashboards, alerts, logging).
  • Contribute to evaluation and measurement workflows by enabling feedback loops and instrumentation that supports quality scoring, experimentation, and iterative improvement of AI experiences.
  • Maintain a high engineering bar through code reviews, automated testing, security-minded development, and ongoing reduction of technical debt across shared systems and workflows.

What we look for in you

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on backend development and full stack capabilities.
  • Proven ability to design, build, scale, and maintain production services, especially within microservices architectures.
  • Strong coding skills with a focus on high-quality, well-tested, customer-centric software.
  • Deep understanding of system design, APIs, and software engineering principles.
  • Experience with React/TypeScript for frontend components.
  • Passion for building scalable AI-enabled support products and supporting infrastructure.
  • Excellent communication skills and a transparent, collaborative mindset.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience navigating rapid company growth (e.g., from startup to mid-size).
  • Familiarity with GenAI frameworks/tools, Python, GoLang, Docker, Postgres, MongoDB.
  • Background in AI/LLM infrastructure is a strong plus.
