Valsoft Corporation

AI Engineer

  • Valsoft Corporation

Job Description

About DemandBridge

DemandBridge (a Fluent Software Group/Valsoft company) operates mission-critical platforms that support core business and customer-facing systems. Our infrastructure runs on Microsoft Azure and Cloud Foundry, supporting production workloads with high availability, security, and compliance requirements.

Reliability, automation, and operational excellence are foundational to how we operate. We invest in systems and practices that scale responsibly, reduce risk, and enable engineering teams to ship with confidence.

The Opportunity: AI Engineer

What You’ll Own

Build and Ship Agent-Native Features

  • Own AI-native features for a DB Commerce product area: identify manual workflows, design the agentic path, and ship it.
  • Design autonomy levels per feature: what the agent can decide and do, where the user confirms, and what fails safely.
  • Partner tightly with PM and UX: translate customer pain into agent requirements and UX patterns (human-in-the-loop, explanations, handoffs).

Engineer Agentic Workflows

  • Build agentic workflows in Java/Spring Boot: services, APIs, background jobs, event-driven flows, and integrations.
  • Implement tool-use and function-calling: define safe tool contracts (idempotency, validation, permissions, rate limits).
  • Ground agents in product knowledge via retrieval (RAG): indexing, hybrid retrieval, reranking, and traceability.

Operate and Improve What You Ship

  • Instrument and evaluate: accuracy/quality, latency, cost, fallback rate, adoption, and business outcomes.
  • Operate what you ship: monitoring, incident response, prompt/agent versioning, regression testing, and rollout controls.
  • Use knowledge of agentic tools and workflows to assist in supporting our legacy software.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Strong backend engineering fundamentals and a production delivery track record.
  • Java + Spring Boot experience (REST, service architecture, testing, performance, security).
  • Hands-on experience with LLMs in real systems: function calling/tool use, RAG, or agents (prompting alone is not enough).
  • Experience integrating with datastores and distributed systems (SQL, queues/events, caching).
  • A reliability mindset: you think about edge cases, failure modes, observability, and user trust by default.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Production experience with agentic frameworks (LangChain/LangGraph-style orchestration concepts, state machines, planners).
  • Experience building evaluation harnesses (golden sets, scenario sims, regression evals, red-teaming).
  • Familiarity with vector search/hybrid retrieval and tuning (chunking, indexing, reranking).
  • Security-minded engineering: prompt injection defenses, permissioning, PII controls, audit logging.
  • Domain experience in commerce, ERP, or order management (helpful, not required).

About the Team

The DB Commerce team builds and operates the core commerce platform that customers rely on every day - pricing, ordering, customer workflows, integrations, and the services behind them. We’re a product-minded engineering group that ships continuously, owns what we deploy, and cares about reliability because our customers’ operations depend on it.
