Contentsquare

Staff Product Manager - Query Engine & Segmentation

Job Description

Contentsquare's platform unification journey requires a senior product leader to drive the evolution of our Query Engine and Segmentation capabilities—the foundational data infrastructure powering all product analytics across unified CSQ.
This role is critical as we:
- Unify platform concepts across legacy Heap, Contentsquare, and Hotjar products into a single coherent data model.
- Enable cross-platform analysis that allows customers to analyze web, mobile, and digital experience data seamlessly.
- Achieve query parity on OneDB (single database architecture) and execute complex migrations affecting thousands of customers.
- Scale foundational infrastructure to support enterprise customers with massive data volumes across multiple products.
This is a high-impact, high-visibility role that sits at the intersection of technical architecture and product strategy. You'll be the connective tissue across multiple engineering teams (Query Engine, Segmentation, Tagging, Mobile, Data Infrastructure) and the strategic thought partner to the and a strategic partner to engineering managers and leaders.

What you'll do
  • Strategic Product Leadership:
  • Differentiate foundational capabilities from nice-to-haves while navigating the complexity of unifying multiple platforms (Heap, Contentsquare, Hotjar).
Craft and communicate a compelling vision that unifies products, modules, and capabilities into a coherent whole; rally cross-functional teams around this vision.
Ruthlessly prioritize among competing strategic goals, ensuring "whole" increments of product are built rather than half-finished initiatives that create waste.
Transform ambiguity into execution: Take undefined technical challenges (like "how do we unify all event types across three platforms?") and create concrete requirements, phased roadmaps, and executable plans.

  • Technical & Analytical Excellence:
  • System-level thinking: Exceptional ability to see across complex technical systems, understand dependencies between components, and architect solutions that scale across the entire platform.
Deep technical fluency: Strong understanding of data infrastructure, query engines, data modeling, database architecture, and performance optimization; comfortable discussing technical tradeoffs with senior engineers.
Informed tradeoff management: Expert at balancing technical debt, scalability, cost, customer needs, and business priorities—especially when decisions impact multiple teams.
Metric-driven decision making: Establishes clear success metrics, uses data to inform decisions, and holds teams accountable to measurable outcomes.
Risk & dependency management: Proactively identifies technical and cross-team risks, ensures alignment before work begins, and prevents downstream blockers.

  • Collaboration & Team Partnership:
  • Early engineering involvement: Includes technical leads in discovery and solutionization from the start; shares responsibility for communicating vision and priorities to teams.
Provide visibility and build relationships: Proactively communicates strategic decisions and roadmap changes; establishes excellent relationships with executive-level stakeholders, peer PMs, and engineering counterparts.
Thoughtful balance: Carefully weighs product increments, technical health, and team wellbeing—never completely sacrificing one for the others.
Low-ego partnership: Operates in "blurry" environments where ownership boundaries aren't rigid; genuinely collaborative, shares credit freely, focuses on team success.
Force multiplier: Creates leverage through frameworks, clear prioritization, excellent communication, and proactive unblocking.

  • Operational Philosophy & Culture:
  • Lean mindset: Passionate advocate of "stop starting, start finishing"; sworn enemy of waste in all forms—particularly waiting, context-switching, and half-baked work.
Energizing presence: Someone the team genuinely wants to work with; brings enthusiasm and positive energy even when tackling complex problems.
Customer empathy: Deeply understands both external customers and internal product teams as customers; translates complex technical work into business value.
Growth mindset: Comfortable with "I don't know"; learns quickly and adapts based on feedback and changing context.
Pragmatism over perfection: Thrives in fast-paced environments where documentation may be lean, processes are evolving, and getting things done matters more than perfect process.

    Who you are
  • Required Experience:
  • 7+ years of product management experience & 3-5 years in technical/platform product roles.
Shipped multiple large-scale technical initiatives involving data infrastructure, query engines, or foundational platform capabilities.
Led product initiatives requiring deep collaboration across 3+ engineering teams.
Demonstrated ability to balance tactical execution (quarterly deliverables) with strategic vision (6-18 month roadmap).

  • Strongly Preferred:

  • Background in analytics products, BI tools, or data infrastructure.
Previous experience as an engineer or deep technical background (SQL, database systems, data modeling).
Track record in B2B SaaS products serving enterprise customers.
Experience managing products at the intersection of multiple engineering disciplines (backend, data, frontend).
