Job Role: Mid Level - AI Engineer

Compensation range: $3000 - $4000 AUD / Monthly

Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement

Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Role Overview: We are seeking a Mid level AI Engineer to design, build, and deploy AI driven capabilities that support our product platform and customer solutions. This role is delivery focused and suited to an engineer who is confident working in AWS environments and contributing to production grade systems. You will operate as part of the product delivery team, translating architecture and requirements into secure, scalable services. The role emphasises execution. You are expected to build reliable solutions, document your work clearly, and support services through release and operation. This is not a research role. The focus is on practical AI implementation that delivers measurable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities: 

AI Solution Delivery

• Design and develop AI enabled services using modern engineering practices 
• Build scalable services within AWS aligned to solution designs 
• Implement APIs, integrations, and orchestration layers to support product capabilities 
• Optimise performance, reliability, and cost across deployed workloads 
• Apply security and operational best practices 

Engineering Execution and Collaboration 

• Operate as an active member of the product delivery team 
• Translate technical designs into maintainable, production ready code 
• Participate in backlog refinement, sprint planning, and delivery reviews 
• Partner with architects, technical leads, and DevOps to support release pipelines 
• Support testing, deployment, and defect resolution

Documentation and Knowledge Transfer

• Document architecture decisions, configurations, and patterns 
• Produce clear operational documentation to support ongoing service ownership 
• Contribute to internal engineering standards and reusable components

Quality and Continuous Improvement 

• Follow engineering governance and agreed standards 
• Raise technical risks early and propose practical solutions 
• Identify opportunities to improve platform stability and scalability 
• Contribute to patterns, accelerators, and internal playbooks 

Requirements

• 5+ years' experience in software engineering 
• 3-6 years' experience in AI engineering or machine learning roles 
• Hands on experience delivering workloads within AWS (Required)
• Proven experience delivering production systems, not only prototypes 
• Strong programming capability in Python or similar languages
• Experience building APIs, microservices, or distributed systems 
• Comfortable working independently while remaining aligned to team objectives 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice to Have 

• AWS Associate certification 
• AWS Specialty certification such as Machine Learning or Data Analytics 
• Experience with services such as Lambda, S3, Bedrock, SageMaker, API Gateway, ECS, or Step Functions 
• Understanding of cost aware architecture

DESIRABLE SKILLS

• Experience supporting SaaS or product based platforms 
• Exposure to large language model integration or retrieval architectures 
• Familiarity with container technologies such as Docker 
• Experience working in Agile delivery environments 
• Background in data pipelines or event driven architectures
