Senior Account Manager - AU Commercial Insurance - 105

  • D 2b

Job Description

OVERVIEW:

The client is seeking a senior commercial insurance professional to work directly with the Managing Director (Jim) in a high-trust, end-to-end broking role. This is a hands-on position covering the full policy lifecycle across commercial clients. You will receive instructions (often via voice notes), interpret requirements, structure risks appropriately, approach insurers, prepare recommendations, and manage placements through to binding and renewal. Once briefed, you are expected to own the process — operating independently, accurately, and without constant supervision.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Client & Risk Management:
    • Act as primary contact (after Jim) for allocated commercial clients and new enquiries
    • Translate client discussions and voice notes into clear action plans
    • Identify exposures and structure appropriate insurance programs across:
      • Professional Indemnity
      • Management Liability
      • Commercial Property and associated lines
  • Market Engagement & Placement:
    • Approach insurers/underwriters and obtain competitive terms
    • Complete and submit proposal forms and underwriting information
    • Analyse and compare quotes (terms, limits, deductibles, endorsements)
    • Prepare clear recommendation summaries for Jim’s review and approval
  • Documentation & Communication:
    • Draft professional client emails, proposals and recommendation reports
    • Liaise with insurers on subjectivities, endorsements and negotiations
    • Maintain accurate records within broking/CRM systems and shared files
  • Policy Lifecycle Management:
    • Manage new business, renewals, endorsements and adjustments
    • Check and issue policy documentation
    • Maintain structured manual and digital checklists (including preferred insurer panels by product line)
    • Set and manage follow-ups (e.g. 10-day chasers) to ensure nothing is missed
  • Claims Support:
    • Assist with claims by gathering required information and coordinating with insurers as needed
  • Risk Oversight:
    • Proactively identify gaps, issues or commercial opportunities
    • Escalate risks or concerns appropriately — no “tick and flick” processing

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years’ experience in commercial broking or underwriting (Australian market strongly preferred)
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • Professional Indemnity
    • Management Liability
    • Commercial Property
  • Demonstrated experience managing end-to-end placements (enquiry → quote → bind → renewal)
  • Excellent written and spoken English; able to draft clear, professional advice
  • Strong attention to detail and disciplined process management
  • Commercial judgement and problem-solving ability — can think beyond checklists
  • Comfortable interpreting voice notes and unstructured instructions
  • Proficient with Outlook, Excel, Word and insurance/broking systems

PREFERRED SKILLS (nice to have):

  • Proactive, organised and solutions-oriented
  • Self-directed — able to operate with minimal hand-holding
  • Comfortable working closely with a business owner in a fast-moving environment
  • Client-focused with strong professional communication skills
  • Discreet and trustworthy with sensitive client information
