Proven

Accounting Manager (Contract)

Job Description

About Us At Proven, we're not your average accounting firm. We're a team of forward-thinking, tech-savvy financial professionals dedicated to providing next-level financial solutions. Our fast-paced, high-energy environment is the perfect fit for accounting pros who want to make a real impact.

About This Opportunity This is a contract (1099) hourly engagement that starts part-time with hands-on accounting work — AP, AR, reconciliations, and day-to-day bookkeeping across our client base. We have a dedicated offshore team that handles the majority of the ongoing accounting work. Your job is to own the client relationship, ensure quality, and jump in wherever needed to make sure the work gets done right. As we build your book of clients, the role grows into full-time hours. Compensation is hourly and commensurate with experience.

About You You know what good looks like — and when something's off, you fix it. You can review a reconciliation and spot the issue immediately, but you can also roll up your sleeves and do the work yourself when the situation calls for it. You're comfortable leading a team you didn't build, stepping in where needed, and owning the outcome. You thrive on technology, move fast, and want to build something.

The Role

Phase 1 — Ramp (Part-Time) You'll get up to speed on our clients, tech stack, and workflows. During this phase you'll be doing more of the hands-on work yourself as you learn the accounts and build trust.

  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Perform bank and account reconciliations
  • Assist with monthly close processes
  • Maintain accurate records across multiple client accounts in cloud-based platforms
  • Review work produced by the offshore team for accuracy and completeness
  • Document issues and flag discrepancies
  • Get to know client needs, preferences, and pain points

Phase 2 — Full Book (Transition to Full-Time) As your client book grows, you shift into an ownership role — managing the client relationship, overseeing the offshore team's output on your accounts, and jumping in hands-on wherever needed to ensure quality and timeliness.

  • Own client relationships as the primary point of contact, maintaining regular communication and addressing inquiries and concerns
  • Meet with clients monthly and quarterly to review and present financials
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their business needs, financial goals, and challenges, and provide strategic advice accordingly
  • Oversee and QA the offshore team's work across your client accounts including AP, AR, reconciliations, close processes, and reporting
  • Jump in and do the work yourself when gaps arise, deadlines are tight, or quality needs to be elevated
  • Manage all aspects of the accounting cycle including billing, financial statements, general ledger, payroll, budgeting, revenue recognition, and special analyses
  • Assist with defining, benchmarking, and implementing operational best practices
  • Maintain documented systems of accounting policies and operations
  • Manage client engagements, ensuring quality and timely delivery of services
  • Provide direction and feedback to offshore team members supporting your clients
  • Identify workflow improvements and help refine processes between the US and offshore teams

What We Value

Ownership Mentality — The offshore team does the heavy lifting, but you own the outcome. When something falls through the cracks, you catch it and fix it — no excuses, no finger-pointing.

Excellent Multi-Tasking — Proven utilizes numerous cloud-based software platforms to serve our clients. We need someone who can jump between applications, client profiles, and tasks while staying organized and thorough.

Team Spirit — We look for determined, caring, and engaged teammates. We take care of our people and encourage each other to achieve great things.
