About the role:

The Senior/Principal Cloud Platform Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining Mission Lane's cloud-native infrastructure platform built on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE). This role serves as a force multiplier for application engineering teams by providing scalable, reliable, and secure platform capabilities that accelerate development velocity and operational excellence. The Cloud Platform Engineer collaborates closely with engineering teams, InfoSec, and IT to architect and implement infrastructure solutions that support Mission Lane's mission to provide fair and clear credit to all customers. This position plays a critical role in ensuring platform reliability, security, and cost-effectiveness while driving technical innovation and best practices across the organization.

As a Cloud Platform Engineer, you will:

Build and evolve platform capabilities including service mesh (Istio), API gateway (Solo Gloo), observability stack (Prometheus/Thanos, Grafana, Loki, Tempo), and GitOps tooling (ArgoCD/Kargo). Architect scalable, resilient, and secure solutions that align with business requirements and industry best practices. Drive infrastructure decentralization efforts and champion microservice-based architectures.

Create self-service tooling and automation that improves engineering productivity and reduces operational toil. Implement GitOps practices and ensure all infrastructure changes are version-controlled and auditable.

Networking & Security

Operational Excellence & Reliability

Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation to ensure platform availability and rapid incident response. Develop and maintain runbooks, monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions. Conduct post-incident reviews and implement preventative measures. Drive improvements in system reliability, performance, and cost optimization. Establish and track SLIs/SLOs/error budgets for platform services.

Collaboration & Mentorship

Mentor and grow teammates through code reviews, pairing sessions, and knowledge sharing. Support application engineering teams with onboarding services to the platform and troubleshooting issues. Lead technical discussions and contribute to architecture decisions. Document platform capabilities, best practices, and procedures. Foster a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence.

About Mission Lane:

Founded in December 2018, Mission Lane is a purpose-driven fintech company based in the U.S., with headquarters in Richmond, Virginia.

It all started with a realization: nearly fifty percent of the adult population in the U.S. doesn’t have access to a clear line of credit. Most traditional credit card companies either overlook or overcharge this group because they have less-than-perfect credit scores or no scores at all. We decided this just wouldn’t do.

In partnership with our sponsor banks, we offer credit cards under the Mission Lane brand name, with better, clearer terms, and a more refined customer experience than the alternatives available to people working hard to improve their credit. To date, over four million consumers have chosen Mission Lane, earning high customer ratings on Credit Karma for its market segment and industry leading Net Promoter scores.

Mission Lane has cumulatively raised over $600 million of equity from leading investors, including Invus Opportunities, QED Investors, LL Funds, funds affiliated with Oaktree Capital Management, and other leading investors.

Our commitment to a workplace built on respect and dignity is guided by our core value of Unity. We believe that everyone plays a vital role in our shared purpose, and we actively cultivate an environment where all individuals have the opportunity to do their best work. By fostering a culture of empathy and collaboration, we create a strong sense of belonging and support for every team member.
