Job Summary
The Senior Accountant will be a key member of the finance team, responsible for managing and overseeing the company’s financial activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and providing strategic financial insights.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS or other relevant accounting standards.
- Oversee the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of financial data.
- Provide detailed financial analysis, including performance variance analysis, cash flow management, and financial forecasting to support decision-making.
- Ensure the integrity of financial records, maintaining compliance with local and international accounting regulations, as well as insurance industry-specific requirements.
- Manage and optimize accounting processes, identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices for operational efficiency.
- Oversee tax compliance and assist with the preparation of tax filings, ensuring timely and accurate submission in line with tax laws and regulations.
- Lead the coordination and completion of external audits, liaising with auditors and ensuring that all audit requirements are met.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, such as underwriting, claims, and product development, to ensure alignment of financial reporting with business operations.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior members of the finance team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Support the Finance Manager / Financial Controller in strategic planning, budgeting, and financial forecasting processes.
- Monitor and manage financial risks, ensuring the business remains compliant with financial regulations and best practices.
- Contribute to the development of financial strategies that align with the company’s goals and objectives
Requirements
Must Have Skills/ Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) as an accountant, with experience in the insurance industry.
- Proven expertise in insurance accounting, including underwriting, claims, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong technical knowledge of IFRS, US GAAP and insurance-specific accounting requirements.
- Solid experience in financial reporting, budget preparation, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities, with a track record of managing and developing finance teams.
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software and tools (e.g., MS Dynamics, AP, Oracle, Xero, or similar platforms).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders and senior leadership.
- A proactive, results-driven approach with the ability to drive financial performance and process improvements.
Advantageous:
- Experience with IFRS 17 (Insurance Contracts) is a significant advantage.
- Experience working in a start-up or fast-growing environment within the insurance sector.
- Professional certifications such as ACA, ACCA, or CIMA are highly desirable.
