At LawnStarter, engineering leadership isn’t about babysitting Jira boards — it’s about building high-performing teams, delivering meaningful customer value, and scaling systems that power a fast-growing marketplace.

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you’ll report to the Head of Engineering and lead cross-functional delivery teams responsible for turning product vision into reliable, scalable software. You’ll partner closely with Product, Design, and Engineering leadership to continuously raise the bar on how we build and ship.

This is a role for someone who thrives at the intersection of people leadership, technical depth, and execution excellence.

🧭 What You’ll Do

• Lead and grow exceptional engineering teams — recruit, mentor, and retain engineers while fostering a culture of ownership, trust, and continuous improvement.
• Drive predictable, high-quality delivery — help teams ship sustainably, on cadence, and with confidence.
• Partner cross-functionally — collaborate with Product Management, Design, Architecture, Security, and Quality Engineering from roadmap planning through delivery.
• Shape engineering processes — improve how we plan, build, track, and deliver as we scale both our product and organization.
• Guide technical decision-making — stay close enough to the work to support system design, incident response, and observability when needed.
• Build for scale — support distributed teams working across time zones, technologies, and stacks.

Requirements

🧠 What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a seasoned engineering leader with strong people skills and a solid technical foundation.

You’ll thrive here if you have:

• Hands-on experience with modern web systems
  Server- and client-side development, cloud environments, RESTful APIs, React, MVC frameworks, security fundamentals (like XSS), and test-driven development.
• Strong computer science fundamentals
  You understand data structures, Big-O notation, composition vs. inheritance, and can reason clearly about tradeoffs.
• Deep comfort with data and persistence layers
  SQL and non-relational databases, indexing strategies, CRUD operations, and query optimization.
• Experience leading distributed teams
  Across geographies, cultures, and time zones.
• A passion for developing people
  You invest in coaching, feedback, and career growth — not just delivery.
