Data Specialist

  • Activate Talent

Job Description

Role Overview

The Data Specialist will be responsible for architecting, building, and scaling the organization’s end-to-end data ecosystem. This is a foundational role for a fast-growing, omnichannel consumer business where data is central to strategy, execution, and decision-making.

This role sits at the intersection of data strategy, marketing analytics, operations, and executive leadership. The mandate is clear: transform the organization into a deeply data-driven operation. The Data Specialist will define the long-term data vision while remaining highly hands-on—building pipelines, dashboards, analytical models, and automated workflows that power daily operations and long-term growth.

This is a rare opportunity for a senior data leader who thrives in both strategic leadership and execution and wants to build a data function from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

Data Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and own the long-term vision, roadmap, and operating model for the data function across the organization.
  • Establish a scalable, repeatable data-driven decision-making framework used consistently across teams.
  • Partner directly with the executive team to deliver proactive insights, support monthly executive business reviews, respond to ad-hoc analytical requests, and prepare data-driven materials for board-level discussions.
  • Manage intake, prioritization, and delivery of all data and analytics requests by creating a clear, organization-wide engagement and governance process.
  • Educate and enable stakeholders to effectively leverage data, ensuring widespread adoption of data best practices.

Data Infrastructure & Governance

  • Design, build, and oversee the company’s data infrastructure, including ingestion, transformation, and analytics layers.
  • Oversee integration and flow of data across functions, particularly across ecommerce platforms, fulfillment partners (e.g., Shopify and 3PLs), finance systems, and marketing platforms.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, security, and governance across all systems and tools.
  • Evaluate, oversee, and make decisions regarding the data and analytics tech stack to ensure scalability and reliability.

Analytics & Reporting

  • Build dashboards, reporting frameworks, and self-serve analytics tools that support daily decision-making across marketing, operations, finance, and leadership.
  • Operationalize analytics through automated workflows that surface insights proactively rather than reactively.
  • Oversee onboarding of new data sources and ensure seamless integration into existing systems.

Marketing & Omnichannel Analytics

  • Lead end-to-end omnichannel marketing analytics across DTC, wholesale/retail, marketplaces, and emerging channels.
  • Own advanced measurement methodologies including marketing mix modeling (MMM), incrementality testing, attribution modeling, and performance analytics.
  • Ensure accurate attribution of marketing spend and performance as the business expands across retail, Amazon, TikTok, and other channels.
  • Drive rigorous analysis of customer lifecycle behavior, cross-channel performance, and marketing efficiency to inform budget allocation, optimization, and growth strategy.
  • Partner closely with the Growth Marketing team to translate analytics into clear, actionable recommendations.

Requirements

7+ years of experience in analytics, data strategy, or data leadership, with recent experience owning or leading a data function.

Strong background in DTC, ecommerce, and/or omnichannel retail analytics.

Proven track record of transforming organizations into data-driven cultures.

Deep expertise in marketing analytics, attribution, incrementality testing, MMM, and performance measurement.

Experience building and managing modern data infrastructure, including pipelines, transformations, and analytics layers.

Strong understanding of data integration across ecommerce platforms, fulfillment partners, and operational systems.

Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and partner across executive, marketing, operations, and finance teams.

Comfortable balancing high-level strategic thinking with hands-on execution.

Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science, or a related field preferred.
