Job Description
About the Role
At Fetch, we are passionate about solving challenging problems and embracing ambiguity. Our engineering philosophy promotes adaptability and innovation over rigid adherence to rules. As an SDET, you will contribute to shaping our test automation strategies, collaborating across teams, and ensuring our software meets the highest quality standards.
Our QA team is a critical driver in our engineering efforts, with 36 professionals tackling a diverse range of test automation needs: mobile end-to-end testing on Appium with Ruby, backend testing in Python using Pytest, performance testing with Locust and K6, mobile analytics leveraging a custom framework in Go, and web UI testing using Playwright.
We’re looking for someone who doesn’t just think about today but envisions what our test automation will need to look like down the road. As we scale, we need proactive thinkers who can anticipate the unknown, look around the corner, and create a vision for how our testing will support future product growth. This means exploring unconventional approaches and implementing innovative checks throughout our systems to elevate confidence in every release.
A part of this role will be helping to grow the technical skills of the team. You’ll mentor and guide early-career engineers and analysts, sharing insights, driving best practices, and ensuring the team continuously levels up. By fostering a collaborative, growth-oriented environment, you’ll set a high bar for QA at Fetch and play a crucial role in building a skilled, resilient team prepared to meet tomorrow’s challenges.
If you're someone who thrives in complex environments, enjoys collaborating across teams, and is passionate about creating efficient, scalable test automation solutions, this role is for you!
In your tool bag:
- Test Automation Development: Design, develop, and execute robust automation tests, frameworks, and tools to improve testing efficiency and scalability.
- Infrastructure Improvement: Identify and implement enhancements to test automation infrastructure to streamline test case development, execution, and maintenance.
- Automation Strategy: Initiate and lead the planning of automation roadmaps, selecting appropriate tools and scenarios for automation.
- Testing Principles: Prioritize lower-level tests (e.g., unit and integration tests) over higher-level tests, ensuring effective automation strategies.
- Coverage Optimization: Align automation efforts with project goals, avoiding redundancy and regularly evaluating coverage for completeness.
- Collaboration: Partner with team members and QA peers to ensure key project aspects are effectively automated and support broader team goals.
- Continuous Improvement: Research and implement new testing approaches, automation techniques, and process improvements to enhance test coverage and the flexibility of the test framework.
- Performance & Reliability Testing: Develop performance testing strategies and tools to identify system bottlenecks and ensure optimal user experience across the platform.
- Data-Driven Quality Decisions: Use data and metrics to drive decisions, continuously improving testing processes and product quality based on empirical evidence.
You have experience with:
- Experience designing and executing automation tests for mobile, backend, or web applications.
- Proficiency in a programming language such as Python, Ruby, or Go, with knowledge of developing test automation frameworks.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, including integrating automated tests into the pipeline to ensure continuous quality at every stage of the development and deployment process.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on testing and quality assurance best practices.
- Understanding of Agile methodologies and experience incorporating testing into development workflows.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work across teams and contribute to a shared testing vision.
At Fetch, we'll give you the tools to feel healthy, happy and secure through:
- Equity for everyone

- Benefits for humans and pets: We offer comprehensive medical, dental and vision plans for everyone including your pets.

- Paid Time Off: On top of our flexible PTO, Fetch observes 9 paid holidays, including Juneteenth and Indigenous People’s Day, as well as our year-end week-long break.
- Robust Leave Policies: 20 weeks of paid parental leave for primary caregivers, 14 weeks for secondary caregivers, and a flexible return to work schedule.
- Calvin Care Cash: Employees who are welcoming new family members will also receive a one time $2,000 incentive to assist employees with covering the cost of childcare, clothing, diapers and much more!
- Hybrid Work Environment: Collaborate with your team in one of our stunning offices in Madison, Birmingham, or Chicago. We’ll ensure you are equally equipped with the hardware and software you need to get your job done in the comfort of your home.
